Dr. Maria Joana Thomas

Dr. Thomas was born and raised in the Philippines.  She received her combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine in 2010.  During this time, Dr. Thomas was on the Dean’s List and also received an academic scholarship for outstanding performance on the University’s entrance examination.  She maintained this scholarship for the entire seven years she attended the University.

After practicing several years in the Philippines (first as an Intern and later as a Physician), Dr. Thomas moved to the United States.  In 2017 she completed her Residency in Internal Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.  While there, Dr. Thomas received the Student’s Choice Award for the Most Outstanding Resident Educator.  She was also chosen to serve as Chief Resident.

Dr. Thomas was then accepted into the Nephrology Fellowship program at the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.  She completed her Fellowship in 2019.

Dr. Thomas is fluent in both English and Tagalog.  She is an amateur photographer who enjoys hiking and a multitude of outdoor activities.
